Creation of a Stade Composite Network

The application of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers is recognized as having the greatest lightweight construction potential not only for aircraft structures but also in public transport engineering. Even compared with aluminum construction methods, a weight reduction of up to 30% is possible which leads to considerable economical and ecological advantages. Correspondingly, the range of application of composite fiber-reinforced polymers in commercial aircraft has continuously expanded during the past two decades and has greatly contributed to the economical operation of commercial aircraft. Today, about 20% of the entire structure is already composed of composite fibers. With the AIRBUS A380, for example, this amount will soon be exceeded and, in 2007, the 40% mark will be surpassed when CFRP wings are introduced. An "all-composite passenger aircraft" is expected by 2010.
