GroTherm

The CTC GmbH is working on the GroTherm project in cooperation with partners from industry and research institutes on the development of a fiber placement procedure for the processing of thermoplastic CFRP tapes. Reasons for the application of thermoplastic semi-finished products are improved impact properties, weldability and the possibility of an in-situ manufacture, i.e. the manufacture of the final product in one production step.

The project includes the development and improvement of thermoplastic tapes, the implementation of an appropriate single-tape laying head as well as the manufacture of a demonstrator component with NC-programs generated by a CATIA based offline programming software.

The so-called fiber placement procedure is used in which the tape material can be precisely laid down along programmed paths on part surfaces with double curvature. A fiber placement machine, owned by AIRBUS Deutschland GmbH, will be used for the integration of a recently developed laying head.
